This season has been all about finishing strong for the Miner Rugby Club. They are coming off a Conference Championship and heading to Nationals this weekend as the 15th seed in the 2019-20 USA Rugby College National Championship. “We’ve known that we have the recipe for a great team that can make a statement both in conference and on the national level as long as we could stay healthy and finish every match strong.” says club president Austin McMillen.

Before 2019, the last year they won their conference was 2015 when only 4 of their current rostered athletes were on the team. Between these championships they have placed 2nd each year. Overcoming their opponents by an unbelievable margin of 317-58 on the path to the championship over 6 matches has only made the entire journey that much better and demonstrated to the team and their future opponents that they are not an opponent to be taken lightly.

Austin pointed the success of the team to its chemistry this year. “The addition of new freshmen and returning several veteran players has really helped us get to this point and we are excited to show that same success on the national level as we get ready for playoffs.” They face off against #16 Montana State in the Midwest region of the round of 16 in Columbia, MO on November 23.
