­With a combined 90-plus years of experience, Jerry Bayless and Marsha Grayer were the epitome of dedication and spirit at Missouri S&T for many. The civil, architectural and environmental engineering department will hold a memorial tribute at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Please join the department to celebrate both of them and share remembrances.

Jerry Bayless was known by students and alumni as “Mr. MSM,” “Mr. UMR” or “Mr. S&T,” depending on the era, or simply as “Mr. Miner” to many.

Bayless earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the university in 1959 and 1962, respectively. He joined the faculty in 1959, served as assistant dean and associate dean of engineering, and retired in February 2017 as associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. He passed away on July 2.

Grayer was an S&T staff member for 38 years. She served as a senior secretary for civil, architectural and environmental engineering. She passed away on June 15.
