S&T’s arts, languages and philosophy department and Arts Rolla are hosting a writing competition. Submissions in fiction, non-fiction and poetry categories will be accepted until Wednesday, Oct. 2.
A public reception will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla. Monetary awards will be presented to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category. The first- and second-place award recipients in each category will be invited to read their work at the reception.
Submissions are open to the general public, including S&T students, faculty and staff. Judges are published authors with years of writing experience.
Interested writers can find entry information by contacting the event organizer, Dr. Jerry Cohen at gcohen@mst.edu or Reba Fryer at the Arts Rolla office at rtsrolla@rollanet.org or 573-364-5539.
“We have very considerable writing talent throughout our state, and it’s a pleasure to encourage and highlight it this way,” Cohen says.
Submissions may be made electronically to rtsrolla@rollanet.org or by hard-copy (please include two copies) to Arts Rolla, P.O. Box 721, Rolla, MO 65402.
Financial support for this event has been partially provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency. Phelps County Bank and anonymous donors have provided financial support for awards.
