University Police received several reports recently of a
fraud scheme that involves someone calling who claims to be with the Social
Security Administration. The caller may claim your Social Security Number has
been compromised and instruct you to provide your Social Security Number for
“verification” purposes. This is a fraudulent attempt to acquire your Social
Security Number.
The department reminds the campus community to keep the
following tips in mind:
- Never give anyone any personal identifier
information or financial information over the telephone unless you personally
initiated the contact and you have verified the company or agency as
legitimate.
- If you are the victim of a scam, please contact
the University Police or your local law enforcement agency.
- The University Police department is available
to you 24/7 via Rave Guardian App or at 341-4300. The department is located in
Room G-10 Campus Support Facility. In an emergency, dial 911.
