Are you an anime fan or curious about what the fuss is about? Missouri S&T and the University of Missouri-St. Louis will offer the online course, “ALP 1001: Anime Nation: Popular Culture in Japan” this fall. Students can choose one 8-week session: either Aug. 19-Oct. 12 or Oct. 14-Dec. 14.
In ALP, students will investigate post-modern samurai, pre-teen ninjas and other facets of Japanese pop culture. This online course introduces the history, genres, styles, philosophy and cultural context of anime. Movie clips, readings and narrated presentations provide background for analysis. Space is limited. For more information, please contact Dr. Audra Merfeld-Langston, associate professor and chair of arts, languages and philosophy, at audram@mst.edu.
