New students will begin their S&T college careers during Opening Week, from Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 16. They will participate in Project X throughout the week, culminating in races on Friday. Volunteers are needed to serve as running judges for one of three shifts on Friday, Aug. 16:
Project X is a team-based experiential learning project. Throughout the week, mentor groups will modify a remote-controlled vehicle. Their project will be judged on several objectives: design, creativity, oral presentation and written reflection. Project X will conclude on Friday with a team competition racing throughout the heart of campus. The races will begin outside Schrenk Hall around 8:30 a.m. and finish at the Havener Center around 4 p.m.
Running judges will follow mentor groups as they race through the course and keep track of the group’s time. For more information, or to volunteer as a judge, please contact Kayla Klossner-Thompson, director of new student programs, at kayla.thompson@mst.edu, call 341-4996, or drop by 106 Centennial Hall.
Mark your calendars to attend this S&T tradition, and help welcome new students to campus.
