Jerry Bayless, a longtime member of the civil engineering faculty who held two degrees from S&T and served as a volunteer with the Miner Alumni Association, died this morning (Tuesday, July 2) at age 81. Funeral and memorial arrangements are pending, and more information about arrangements will be shared when available.
A member of the 2011 inaugural Alumni of Influence class, Bayless earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the university in 1959 and 1962, respectively. He joined the faculty in 1959, served as assistant dean and associate dean of engineering, and retired in February 2017 as associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. He also served as treasurer of the Miner Alumni Association and received the Chancellor Medal from Missouri S&T and the Alumni Merit Award from the Miner Alumni Association. He also served as Honorary St. Pat and parade marshal.
