Joann Stiritz, senior communications coordinator for S&T’s civil, architectural and environmental engineering department, has worked at the university for 23 years.
Step inside Joann Stiritz’s office, and you’ll get a taste of her personality: from the brightly colored artwork she painted to the magnets of her favorite superhero, Wonder Woman. Stiritz is senior communications coordinator for S&T’s civil, architectural and environmental engineering department.
“I enjoy getting to meet students and interacting with them,” Stiritz says. “We have lots of interesting students from a wide variety of backgrounds.”
The civil, architectural and environmental engineering department is one of S&T’s largest academic departments, with approximately 600 students. In her role, Stiritz oversees communication and marketing strategies for the department. She designs the Bridge newsletter for alumni, updates the department website, takes pictures and creates content for the department’s Facebook page, plans and promotes events, and works closely with faculty to create graphics and presentations for conferences and journals.
Stiritz has served in her current position since 2011. She previously worked in S&T’s department of marketing and communications for over 15 years, where she designed publications and served as arts and production editor for Missouri S&T Magazine. She says one of her favorite projects was a “loud and proud” brightly-colored viewbook for admissions.
Outside of work, you could run into Stiritz at a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game or spot her around Rolla, taking in a Miners volleyball game, mowing her mom’s lawn or spending time with her 12-year-old nephew.
Cody Honse, representative from Legends Bank, congratulates Joann Stiritz.

Missouri S&T’s Staff Council launched the staff spotlight feature in February 2019 as a way to highlight staff members throughout the university. Legends Bank, Au Bon Pain and the S&T Store are sponsors. The articles are published every other week in eConnection (second and fourth Thursdays during the academic year; second and fourth Wednesday during breaks) and shared on Staff Council’s Facebook page.
