S&T orchestras to collaborate with local musicians for spring concert

SPRING 2019 ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Two local musicians will join the S&T Chamber and Symphony Orchestras for their annual spring concert on Sunday. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall. Dr. Kyle Wernke, Missorui S&T lecturer in music will directs the ensembles.

The Chamber Orchestra will begin the program with Wernke’s “Poem for Flute and String Orchestra,” featuring Rolla High School senior Kristina Happel on flute, followed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1.” The Symphony Orchestra will follow with a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes” from his ballet, “Rodeo.” Local pianist William Owen will join the orchestra to conclude the concert with George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Tickets are $5 for the public and free to youth, ages 18 and under, and Missouri S&T students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Leach Theatre Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 573-341-4219.
