In the news: Research on robotic bridge repair

  • Reporter Joe Hickman interviewed Dr. Genda Chen and Mark Bookout for a news story, “Missouri S&T pioneering research in robotic bridge inspection-repair,” which aired March 20 on KY3, an NBC affiliate in Springfield, Missouri. Chen is the Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering at Missouri S&T and director of Inspecting and Preserving Infrastructure through Robotic Exploration (INSPIRE). Bookout is senior director of IT research support services.
  • St. Louis Public Radio reporter Jonathan Ahl’s story about Dr. Genda Chen and Mark Bookout’s work with INSPIRE has received widespread media coverage in Missouri and beyond. Ahl’s story, “Robots May Help State Inspect Bridges, first aired on St. Louis Public Radio on March 9. The story was picked up by the Associated Press and carried in numerous media outlets across the nation, including The San Francisco Chronicle, The Sacramento Bee and The Houston Chronicle.
