Title: Disorder Treatment of gambling disorder with an emphasis on high risk population

Speaker: Dr. Jeremiah Weinstock, Associate Professor of Psychology, Saint Louis University

Abstract: Gambling disorder affects about 1-3% of the US adult population and the harms associated with the disorder include financial ruin for individuals and families, significant guilt and shame, disrupted social relationships, engagement in illegal behaviors, occupational impairment, despair, and suicide. The impact of these harms is greater than the harms associated with many well-known medical and psychiatric conditions. This presentation will focus on the treatment of gambling disorder with an emphasis on high risk populations (e.g., college students, individuals in substance use disorders treatment, individuals involved with the criminal justice system) and the use of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy to treat the disorder.

When: 2-3pm on Friday, March 8th

Where: Butler-Carlton Hall 121
