Inka engineering topic of March 8 lecture

Cliff SchexnayderDr. Cliff Schexnayder will present the Hurst-McCarthy Lecture titled “Inka Engineering Project” at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Schexnayder is a scholar emeritus at the Del E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University.

Schexnayder will discuss how close examination and reverse engineering of the past accomplishments of ancient Inka engineers can lead to thoughtful solutions to current engineering challenges, particularly in constructing sustainable infrastructure.

The Hurst-McCarthy Professorship of Construction Engineering and Management was established through a combined $1 million gift from alumnus Michael Hurst, who earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1974, and his wife, Barbara, along with McCarthy Building Companies, where Hurst worked for more than three decades before his retirement as president and chief operating officer in 2007.
