The Hurst-McCarthy Professorship of Construction Engineering and Management was established through a combined $1 million gift from alumnus Michael Hurst, who earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1974, and his wife, Barbara, along with McCarthy Building Companies, where Hurst worked for more than three decades before his retirement as president and chief operating officer in 2007.
