Dr. Claire Howell Major, professor of higher education at the University of Alabama, will give the keynote address at S&T’s annual Teaching and Learning Technology Conference at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Her presentation is titled “Learning Assessment: Making Learning Visible as an Essential Element of Effective Teaching.”
Major will share about how regular activities that faculty normally use to gauge student learning can be harnessed to inform teaching and to improve learning. The session will include how to link learning goals, instructional practices and assessment activities in a seamless whole.
Major is the author of several books including her most recent, Learning Assessment Techniques: A Handbook for College Faculty, co-authored with Elizabeth Barkley.
The all-day, regional conference during spring recess is free, and the event includes several break-out sessions, meals, a vendors’ reception, door prizes and other giveaways. Please register by March 1 at tlt.mst.edu.
