Women are needed to volunteer as workshop presenters and group guides for attendees of the 18th Annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 5th, on the campus of Missouri University of Science and Technology. EYH helps 7th- and 8th-grade girls learn about careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The event brings more than 450 students to campus.
Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) is currently looking for engaging hands-on workshop activities, performed on a 7th and 8th grade level, that will inspire and encourage girls thinking about STEM education and careers. Each workshop will be 50 minutes in length on the topic of the presenter’s choice, although a hands-on activity is strongly suggested and best received.
Each workshop will be conducted two times, at 10:10-11am and 11:10-Noon, and have 12-18 students per session. All volunteers are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch.
Professional & Continuing Education (previously DCE) needs all workshop confirmations by Friday, September 14th, for planning purposes. This is also an excellent community and education outreach for grant requirements.
Female faculty, staff, students and community members are also encouraged to volunteer to help the student groups navigate the campus. Guiding a group is easy and enjoyable and is a great way to contribute to the students’ experience on campus. The hours are from 8:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and lunch is provided for all volunteers. Sign-up to volunteer as a guide by Friday, Sept. 7.
