Updates for the S&T community
Women are needed to volunteer as workshop presenters and group guides for attendees of the 18th annual Expanding Your Horizons conference, which will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at S&T.
Expanding Your Horizons introduces seventh- and eighth-grade girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The event brings more than 450 students to campus.
Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) is seeking engaging hands-on workshop activities, performed on a 7th and 8th grade level, that will inspire and encourage girls thinking about STEM education and careers. Each workshop will be 50 minutes and on the topic of the presenter’s choice. Hands-on activities are strongly suggested and best received. This is also an excellent community and education outreach activity for grant requirements.
Each workshop will be conducted two times, at 10:10-11 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.-noon, with 12-18 students per session. All volunteers are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch.
The professional and continuing education office (previously named “distance and continuing education”) needs all workshop confirmations by Friday, Sept. 14, for planning purposes.
Female faculty, staff, students and community members are also encouraged to volunteer as guides to help the student groups navigate the campus. Volunteer hours are 8:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Lunch is provided. Please sign up to volunteer as a guide at eyh.mst.edu by Friday, Sept. 7.
For more information or to sign up as a workshop presenter, please contact Michelle Wiginton at wigintonm@mst.edu or call professional and continuing education at 341-6222.
