Scoundrel or gentleman? Ahmad publishes on Navy captain

Dr. Diana Ahmad’s article, “Scoundrel or Gentleman: The Reign of Captain Benjamin Franklin Tilley, U.S.N., on American Samoa, 1900-1901,” was published in the Spring 2018 issue of The Nautilus. Ahmad gives an account of Tilley’s time in American Samoa, which was not the typical story of Western interactions with Pacific Islanders.
Ahmad is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of history. The Nautilus is a maritime journal of literature, history and culture published by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
