The Rave Guardian App is getting some updates to provide additional services and enhance its capabilities. The updates should be automatic on your phone. If you are unsure if your application was automatically updated on your smartphone, please visit the app store on your device, go to updates and look for the Guardian icon, then follow the steps for the update.

Changes include the addition of a phone directory icon named “Contacts.” The University Police uploaded 25 campus departments to this icon. With the touch of a button, you can now call those departments without looking up the phone numbers.

The “Submit a Tip” icon replaces the “Text the University Police” icon. This function still responds directly to S&T’s police department but internal categories have been added to help accelerate the tip and response.

The “Safety Timer” feature is off the App for the next few weeks while it is re-configured and additional features are added. Among the capabilities of the new feature will be the ability for users to share their location (via phone GPS) so that groups traveling together can keep track of one another.

A new feature, called “Connections,” also will be added This icon will contain several University Police loaded website addresses to help direct users to various S&T websites.

Other changes on the horizon include the addition of an icon for documents (such as safety and security posters and bulletins) that are accessible by the user without internet service. Lastly, geo-fencing is being enhanced and the app is aligned more with the Rave mass notification system. So, when a user is on another campus or community that use the Guardian System, the user, even if not from that respective campus or community, will still receive the alert.

Another update will likely be installed in early August to replace the safety timer. For more information, please contact the IT Help Desk at 341-4357 (HELP) or visit the help desk on the first floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library.
