Dr. Melanie Mormile, professor of biological sciences, has been named interim associate dean of research and external relations in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. She succeeds Dr. Yinfa Ma, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of chemistry, who is retiring from S&T.

Mormile’s appointment runs from July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019. An internal search for a permanent associate dean of research and external relations for the college will be conducted in the 2018-19 academic year.

“Dr. Mormile is a longstanding member of the S&T community with a wealth of experience and accomplishment in research, teaching, administration, service and outreach,” said Dr. Stephen Roberts, dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. “We are extremely fortunate that Dr. Mormile will be serving in this role, and I look forward to working with her and many others in advancing research and strategic partnerships to strengthen S&T’s reputation and visibility.”

Mormile joined the S&T faculty in 1999. She has previously served as special assistant to the provost for faculty affairs and associate provost of faculty affairs.
