The INSPIRE University Transportation Center, with permission and the cooperation of S&T’s facilities operations staff, is conducting research testing on the Computer Science Building’s pedestrian bridge beginning today (Friday, June 29) and continuing intermittently through the end of September. The bridge and adjoining sidewalk beneath the bridge will be closed 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, July 2. Please use the east or south entrances to access the building.
INSPIRE researchers are conducting several tests this summer, including microwave imaging, ground penetrating radar and impact-echo tests, and hyperspectral and thermal imaging.
The transportation center brings together faculty from S&T’s civil engineering, electrical engineering, engineering management and computer science departments to develop safer, more efficient, and cost-effective methods for bridge inspection and maintenance, which include the use of nondestructive evaluation devices and remotely-controlled robotic platforms.
The bridge and sidewalk will be closed intermittently until testing is complete in September. Closures will be announced in eConnection.
For questions related to the temporary bridge closure, please contact Mike Bassett, maintenance supervisor in facilities operations, at 341-4044. For questions related to the bridge test, please contact Dr. Genda Chen, director of the INSPIRE UTC, at gchen@mst.edu.
