University Police has received a complaint of attempted fraud related to a telephone call from someone claiming to be with S&T’s police department with a “spoofed” phone number that appeared to be University Police’s number, 341-4300. The caller said the student owed money and threatened arrest if the student did not pay the caller.

The department reminds the campus community to keep the following tips in mind:

  • Fraudsters often spoof genuine phone numbers to further crimes.
  • If you receive a call from someone threatening an action unless money is immediately paid, hang up. After ending the call, call the department or business that the caller is purporting to represent.
  • If you receive a call like this, please report the fraud to the police.
  • The University Police department is available to you 24/7 via Rave Guardian App or at 341-4300. The department is located in Room G-10 Campus Support Facility. In an emergency, please dial 911.
