Abbas Sultan and Laith Sabri, Ph.D. students in chemical engineering, will present their research at the 25th International Conference on Chemical Reaction in Florence, Italy, later this month. Both received travel grants. Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, chair and Curators’ Distinguished Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, supervises their research.

Sultan’s presentation is titled, “Influence of Bundle of Heat Exchanging Tubes, Their Configuration, and Column Size on the Gas Holdup Distributions in Bubble Column Via Gamma-Ray Computed Tomography.” Co-authors are Sabri and Al-Dahhan.

Sabri’s presentation is titled, “Split Airlift Photobioreactor for High-value Microalgae Culturing: Characterization of Hydrodynamics by Using (Rpt) And (Ct).” Sultan and Al-Dahhan are co-authors.

Sabri’s previous research, “Visualisation and Quantification of Local Hydrodynamics for Split Airlift Photobioreactor during Microalgae Culturing,” was accepted for the world’s largest algae conference, the Algae Biomass Summit 2017 in Salt Lake City. Sabri received a Young Researcher Award while at the summit in November.
