Patrick and Rosemary Malone of Ontario, Canada, were traveling through Missouri last month on their way home from wintering in California when a flat tire created an unexpected roadblock. Mike Bassett, maintenance supervisor, stopped and offered assistance.

“Within one minute of trying to find a contact number for roadside assistance, a driver pulled his vehicle alongside ours and stated, ‘It looks like you folks could use some help,'” says Patrick Malone. “Mike took over and used his phone as we didn’t have a smartphone with us.”

Bassett contacted a nearby vehicle dealership, arranged for a tow truck to transport the vehicle and then drove the Malones to the dealership. The couple was soon on the road again, grateful for Bassett’s help. Patrick wanted to inform Missouri S&T leaders of an employee’s good deeds and emailed a message via the university’s website.

“We cannot emphasize enough just how gracious and helpful Mike was and we will be eternally grateful to him for his assistance during our time of need,” he says.
