Klegseth honored for transportation center work

Matthew Klegseth, an S&T alumnus and a doctoral student in civil engineering, has been named a 2017 Outstanding Student of the Year by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Council of University Transportation Centers (UTC).

Working with Ph.D. advisor Dr. Genda Chen, the Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Chair in Civil Engineering, Klegseth was chosen for his technical merit and research capability, academic performance and leadership at the university’s UTC. Missouri S&T’s transportation center is named Inspecting and Preserving Infrastructure through Robotic Exploration, or INSPIRE.

Klegseth earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and architectural engineering in May 2016 from S&T. His doctoral research focuses on structural health monitoring issues and fiber optic sensor technology. He was recognized Jan. 6 at an awards banquet in Washington.
