Nuclear engineering students, faculty present at national conference

Several Missouri S&T Ph.D. students and faculty members gave presentations at the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Winter Meeting and Nuclear Technology Expo in Washington, D.C., Oct. 29-Nov. 2. Presentations included:

  • “Analysis of a Conceptual Fast Neutron Island in the Missouri S&T Reactor,” by Meshari Al Qahtani, graduate student, and Dr. Ayodeji Alajo, assistant professor of nuclear engineering
  • “Experimental Investigation of Solid Particles Flow in TRISO Spouted Bed Coaters with Binary Mixtures of Particles Using RPT,” by Thaar Al-Juwaya, graduate student, Neven Ali, postdoctoral fellow, and Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, chair and Curators’ Distinguished Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering
  • “Experimental Measurement of 58Ni Alpha-Capture Reactions,” by Kyle Paaren, graduate student, and Dr. Hyoung-Koo Lee, associate professor of nuclear engineering
  • “Experimental Study on Helium Natural Convection Heat Transfer for Two Coolant Flow Channels Within Prismatic Very High Temperature Reactor,” by graduate students Ibrahim Said and Mahmoud M. Taha, and Dr. Shoaib Usman, associate professor of nuclear engineering and Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, chair and Curators’ Distinguished Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering
  • “Microstructural Development of a Borosilicate Glass-Ceramic for Waste Vitrification,” by Paul Porter and Nicholas Roberts, graduate students, and Dr. Richard Brow, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of materials science and engineering
  • “A New Phenomenological Model for Geiger-Müller Deadtime,” by Dr. Shoaib Usman and Bader Almutairi, graduate student, with T. Akyurek from Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey
  • “Simulation Study on Electron Focusing for the First Prototype of a Compact X-Ray Tube,” by Ashish Avachat, graduate student, Dr. Hyoung Koo Lee, associate professor of nuclear engineering, and Dr. Vaibhav Sinha, a 2013 graduate of S&T’s Ph.D. program in nuclear engineering
