ASBP seeks donors for S&T blood drive
Everyone’s invited to roll up their sleeves and save lives Nov. 7 by donating at an Armed Services Blood Program blood drive at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
The drive starts at 1 p.m. and runs through 5 p.m. at 301 Harris Hall on the S&T campus. It’s open to everyone 17 years old and older – military or civilian. All donors will receive a free ASBP t-shirt, some juice and cookies, and a heart-felt thank you.
The Armed Services Blood Program is the official blood collection agency for the Department of Defense. The Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center is one of 22 facilities around the world collecting blood for the ASBP.
Blood collected at this drive will go directly to medical facilities in Afghanistan and other Overseas Contingency areas, as well as military hospitals throughout the Department of Defense.
The military healthcare system requires about 400 units of blood every day. It’s the ASBP’s mission to ensure that blood is available, but that can’t be done without volunteer donors like you. So, if you have your health, celebrate it by giving blood to those who are not as fortunate.
Potential blood donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old and feeling well for the last three days. They must also be well hydrated and have eaten something before donating.
Those wanting to donate should bring a list of foreign countries traveled to and the amount of time spent there along with a photo ID (military ID, driver’s license, etc).
