The Writing Center and the Campus Arts Committee are hosting a reception to introduce an exhibit of paintings by Byron Calavaza, a young artist of the Zuni Pueblo in western New Mexico. Calavaza’s brilliantly colored and dreamlike acrylics give new expression to traditional elements of Zuni spirituality. Join us for the exhibit opening on Monday, November 6th, from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Writing Center, Campus Support Facility 113. Light refreshments will be served, and at 7 pm, Dr. Ted Frisbie, professor emeritus of anthropology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, will offer a brief introduction to the artist’s work and his community. The paintings will remain on display from October 23rd through December 8th. For more information, contact the Writing Center at 341-4436.
