Women are needed to volunteer as workshop presenters and group guides for attendees of the 18th annual Expanding Your Horizons conference for seventh- and eighth-grade girls, which will be held Friday, Nov. 17, on S&T’s campus. Workshop confirmations are needed by Friday, Sept. 15, for planning purposes. Each workshop will be conducted two times, at 10:10-11 a.m. and 11:10 a.m.-noon, with 12-18 students per session. All volunteers are invited to a complimentary lunch.
The professional and continuing education staff (formerly named distance and continuing education) seeks engaging hands-on workshop activities, performed on a seventh- and eighth-grade level, that will inspire and encourage girls thinking about STEM education and careers. Each 50-minute workshop will be on the topic of the presenter’s choice. Hands-on activities are suggested.
Female faculty, staff, students and community members are also encouraged to volunteer to help the student groups navigate campus. Guiding a group is easy and enjoyable and a great way to contribute to the students’ experience on campus. The hours are 8:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Lunch is provided for all volunteers. Sign up to volunteer as a guide by Friday, Oct. 27.
