Like the students he serves and protects, Lt. Oscar Kemp will be hitting the books this semester. Beth Abner, president of Staff Council, presented the council’s inaugural employee scholarship to Kemp, an officer with University Police, during a Staff Council meeting on July 13. The $250 scholarship will go towards Kemp’s tuition this fall as he pursues a bachelor’s degree.
The council recently created the scholarship program to assist staff members who are furthering their education. Through the program, full-time S&T employees enrolled in at least one class at Missouri S&T or another University of Missouri System campus can apply for a $250 scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded twice each year, for the spring and fall semesters. The deadline for the spring semester is Wednesday, Nov. 1, and details will be announced in future issues of eConnection.
Missouri S&T’s scholarships are funded by proceeds from Staff Council’s yearly food auction on Staff Day as well as donations. If you would like to donate to Staff Council’s Employee Scholarship Program, please contact Shasta Lawrence, student support specialist and treasurer of Staff Council, at 341-4209 or shastaj@mst.edu.
