Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, recently received two honors. Oerther has been elected to a two-year term as program chair of the engineering and public policy division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Additionally, the Missouri Milk, Food and Environmental Health Association has certified him as an environmental health specialist.
As program chair of ASEE’s engineering and public policy division, Oerther is responsible for organizing the technical, professional and social events for the more than 200 members of the division who gather at the annual ASEE meeting. The division is designed to foster the understanding of policy issues with significant technological components among engineering faculty, students and professionals in government and industry.
Oerther achieved certification as an environmental health specialist following review of his educational experience, professional practice, ongoing professional development and passing a written exam. He will use this certification to support his teaching of environmental health at Missouri S&T and his ongoing community-based research promoting food safety, nutrition and food security to prevent childhood stunting in developing communities.
