Susan Sutton, an advisor on internationalization with the American Council on Education (ACE), visited Missouri S&T’s campus June 19. She met with campus leaders, including Chris Maples, interim chancellor, and Robert Marley, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. She also met with members of Missouri S&T’s internationalization committee.

While on campus, Sutton reviewed the goals of the committee and offered feedback. The committee held a daylong retreat June 7. Their goals, which align with Missouri S&T’s strategic plan, include:

  • Investigate funding models that encourage departments to explore and develop international programs, projects and recruitment strategies.
  • Increase campus and community participation in activities that meet global learning objectives.
  • Communicate throughout the campus community about international collaboration.
  • Encourage partnerships and collaborations that enhance Missouri S&T’s global reputation, visibility and international ranking.

Internationalization includes many facets of global experiences: study and research abroad, increasing cultural understanding among students, recruiting international students, incorporating global learning competencies into curricula, and collaborating on research with international colleagues.

The committee will host an expert speaker on campus this fall. Details will be shared as plans are finalized.
