The global learning staff will host an opportunity for you to join a departmental service project 3-5 p.m. Monday, May 8, in the lobby of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Stop by to learn about making “plarn” (plastic yarn) from recycled plastic shopping bags, and turning them into sleeping mats for the homeless. This is a drop-in event; there are no fees and all supplies will be provided.
Throughout the year, global learning’s employees have participated in a service project each quarter as part of the department’s informational meeting. The Sleeping Mats for the Homeless project not only creates useful mats for homeless individuals, but also makes creative use of plastic shopping bags, which cause environmental issues if they are not properly recycled.
