Outstanding teaching awards go to distance education faculty

Six faculty members engaged in distance education received outstanding teaching awards during a dinner March 8. Awardees were recognized for their outstanding teaching, reflected in the quality of instruction, interaction with students and availability.

“Each of these faculty members has a strong commitment to the success of our distance programs, demonstrating their commitment to education, professional achievement and the growth of our students,” says Dr. Anthony R. Petroy, assistant vice chancellor of global learning at Missouri S&T. “These awards honor their hard work and dedication to teaching.”

Outstanding Professor Award of Excellence

Excellence Awards were given to professors who scored 4.0 out of 4.0, with 70 percent or more of students participating in the teacher evaluation survey. The recipients are:

  • Dr. Neil Anderson, professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering
  • Dr. Mehdi Ferdowsi, professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Bih-Ru Lea, associate professor of business and information technology
  • Dr. J. David Rogers, the Karl F. Hasselmann Missouri Chair in Geological Engineering

Outstanding Professor Commendation Award

Commendation Awards were given to professors who scored between 3.71 and 3.99 out of 4.0 and had 70 percent or more of students participate in the teacher evaluation survey. The recipients are:

  • Dr. Mao Chen Ge, associate professor of mining and nuclear engineering
  • Dr. Sarah Stanley, assistant professor of business and information technology
