Dr. Oran Allan Pringle, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of physics, died early Friday, March 24, after a short battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Following the service, please join Dr. Pringle’s family at a buffet meal in Room 208 Physics Building. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the S&T physics department or to cancer research.
Dr. Pringle joined the S&T faculty as an assistant professor of physics in 1985. He was named associate professor in 1991 and professor in 1998. He was named Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor in 2005. Dr. Pringle retired on March 1.
Dr. Pringle’s research specialty was neutron-diffraction studies of magnetic materials. He was active in teaching the fundamentals of science to K-12 students and educators to help improve science instruction in Missouri schools.
