Dr. Braden Lusk, chair and professor of mining and nuclear engineering, was recently named to the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Committee on Surface Coal and Human Health. The committee will conduct a study to examine the potential relationship between increased health risks and living in proximity to sites that have been or are being mined or reclaimed for surface coal deposits. Last November, Lusk was appointed to another NASEM committee to study occupational exposure to coal dust in underground mines.
