The Central States Microscopy and Microanalysis Society’s fall meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Havener Center. CSMMS is a local affiliate of the Microscopy Society of America. Dr. Delbert Day, Curators’ Distinguished Professor emeritus of materials science and engineering, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. Day will present “Role of Bio-glass/Microscopy in Health Care.”
The fall meeting will highlight student work in microscopy. The organization will select a student whose work is exemplary and shows promise in the microscopy field. He or she will receive a stipend to attend the yearly Microscopy and Microanalysis (M&M), which will be held in St. Louis in July 2017.
Vendors will be available to discuss microscopes and applications. One of the vendors will display a tabletop scanning electron microscope (SEM), which is a small version of the larger microscopes used on campus.
