Be cautious of phishing attempts

University Police and information security would like to remind the campus that phishing attempts can appear in many forms. The University Police received an advertising fax recently requesting a name, title, email address, business name and address, phone number, cell number, specialty and signature. This is a social engineering scam commonly used to steal funds through spoofing and business email exchanges. Any such advertising fax should be put in recycling when you get them. A legitimate business would not rely on faxes or cold emails requesting such information.
