University of Missouri-Extension will add to the menu of classes that earn you points toward your Wellness Incentive starting in February. Classes scheduled on campus include:
- Taking Care of You: Are you feeling stressed? Learning to manage life’s challenges in a healthy way allows you to take better care of yourself and your overall health. Your instructor will guide you through eight interactive sessions that are based on positive psychology, with an emphasis on mindfulness.
- Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Are you caring for a relative or friend? Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to help you take care of yourself while caring for others. You will benefit from this class whether you are helping a parent, spouse, friend, someone who lives at home, in a nursing home or across the country. This class series meets once a week for six weeks.
- Stay Strong Stay Healthy: Are you over the age of 60 or a middle-aged sedentary adult who wants to get stronger through exercise? Step into strength training with Stay Strong, Stay Healthy. This program can get your fitness journey started or restarted right here on campus. Participants will be guided safely by a trained instructor through warm up, eight muscle-strengthening exercises and cool down.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid: Do you interact regularly with young people? Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach caring adults how to help an adolescent who is experiencing a mental health or addiction challenge or is in crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a five-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
