Dr. Fred Niederman, Shaughnessy Endowed Professor of Information Systems at Saint Louis University, will speak on “Reconsidering the Representation of Theory” from 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, in Room 249 Toomey Hall. In this talk, he will argue that variance theory should be viewed as only one sort of “meta-theory.” He will discuss the elemental nature of theory, delineate several shortcomings of variance theory with the intention of showing the desirability of having a broader range of theory formats and present three alternatives to the variance viewpoint: process metatheory, co-evolution metatheory, and network metatheory.
