Dr. Douglas R. Carroll, director of the Cooperative Engineering Program between Missouri S&T and Missouri State University, has been named acting chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering by Dr. Ian Ferguson, vice provost and dean of the College of Engineering and Computing. The appointment is effective immediately and Carroll will serve as acting chair until a new chair for the department is hired and on board, Ferguson says.
Carroll will also continue to direct the Cooperative Engineering Program, which provides access to students from 16 southwest Missouri counties to bachelor of science degrees in civil engineering and electrical engineering.
“It’s been my pleasure to work with Doug over the past year in his capacity as director of the Cooperative Engineering Program,” Ferguson says. “Doug has successfully guided both the civil and electrical engineering programs through ABET accreditation during the past year and has been actively involved with the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department in his role as program director. I look forward to working with Doug as we search for a new chair.”
Dr. William P. Schonberg, who chaired the department since 1999, announced earlier this year his plans to step down from the position.
A professor of mechanical engineering, Carroll has served as director of the Cooperative Engineering Program since its founding. Prior to that assignment, he taught courses in basic engineering at S&T.
