Dr. Susan L. Murray, professor of engineering management and systems engineering, has been named interim chair of psychological science at Missouri S&T. Her appointment takes effect today (Wednesday, July 1).
Murray takes over for Dr. Nancy Stone, who has served as chair and professor since 2008. Stone stepped down on June 30, 2015.
“I am grateful for Dr. Murray’s willingness to lead the psychological science department during this transition,” says Dr. Stephen Roberts, vice provost and dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business. “She is a well-respected member of the faculty with extensive institutional knowledge, and her research expertise fits well with our industrial organization psychology program. I am certain she will serve this department well.”
Murray joined the S&T faculty in 1994 as an assistant professor of engineering management. She was named associate professor in 2000 and was named professor in 2012. She served as associate chair of engineering management graduate studies at S&T from 2007 to 2008 and 2009 to 2012. Her research focuses on human factors, safety and human systems integration. Among other courses, Murray teaches Human Factors, which serves students in both engineering management and systems engineering and psychological science.
