Phishing attack hits S&T emails

A phishing email was circulated on the Missouri S&T campus on May 7. The email contained the text seen below and was an attempt by a malicious phisher to trick recipients into sharing personal information.

All students, faculty and staff are reminded to exercise a healthy skepticism when receiving suspicious emails and follow the proper process to report spam and phishing attempts: http://it.mst.edu/services/email/spam-reporting/.

Sample text of phishing email as sent from the compromised email account:

Your inbox has almost exceeded its storage limit. It will not be able to send and receive e-mails if exceeded it limit and your e-mail account will be Suspended from our server. To avoid this problem, Please increase your mailbox quota size automatically by clicking oN CLEANUP and fill-out the necessary requirements to automatically increase your mailbox quota size.
