The University of Missouri System provides two types of insurance coverage for students who travel internationally for university purposes. Students traveling on behalf of the university or for university-related travel are required to purchase this insurance coverage. The cost of insurance coverage is $32.25 per month and may be paid either by the university department or the student. HTH coverage includes travel accident and sickness benefits. MedEx coverage includes evacuation and transportation services. MedEx also provides an online location for travelers to store electronic medical information, copy of passport, travel schedule, etc.

Students who will travel internationally must contact Amy Smith, 341-6875, in international and cultural affairs to receive details of the coverage, identification card and emergency contact information.

All students traveling internationally are also strongly encouraged to register in the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) prior to each trip. Enrollment in the STEP program provides travelers the most current information about the country where you will be traveling, updates including travel warnings and travel alerts and resources should you need assistance during your travels.
