Dr. Henry Wiebe, vice provost of global learning for Missouri S&T, has announced that he will retire from the position effective Sept. 1. Wiebe has served as vice provost of global learning since February 2003.
Missouri S&T’s online and distance education programs have generated over $45 million in revenue for the university and the participating departments, while enrollment in online and distance education programs has more than doubled from 476 students in 2003 to 987 today. Through global learning, Missouri S&T’s academic departments offer graduate degree programs in 17 disciplines and over 50 graduate certificate programs. Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report recognized S&T’s excellence in online graduate education by ranking the university’s online engineering programs 17th and information technology programs eighth in the nation. Wiebe attributes this success to the academic departments taking advantage of opportunities to meet the needs of working professionals, many of whom are Missouri S&T alumni.
Before becoming vice provost of global learning, Wiebe served as chair of engineering management and systems engineering and as a professor of engineering management. He joined the S&T faculty in 1969.
