Phishing attack hits S&T emails

A phishing email was circulated on the Missouri S&T campus on March 17. The email contained the text seen below and was an attempt by a malicious phisher to trick recipients into sharing personal information.

All students, faculty and staff are reminded to exercise a healthy skepticism when receiving suspicious emails and follow the proper process to report spam and phishing attempts: http://it.mst.edu/services/email/spam-reporting/.

Sample text of phishing email as sent from a compromised S&T student email account:

 If you are receiving this message it means that your email address has been queued for deactivation; this was as a result of a continuous error script (code:505) receiving from this email address. To Re-Validate please click on the Link Below.
