Erica Kranitz, director of compliance training for the University of Missouri System, will present two university accounting training sessions on Monday, Oct. 21, in the Turner Room of the Havener Center. Accounting services invites the campus community to sign up to attend as many of the sessions as possible:
Fund Accounting and Accounting 101: 10 a.m.-noon
Fund accounting is the framework that the university must follow in maintaining its financial records and in reporting financial information. This session will include a discussion of the restrictions on various types of funds used within the university, such as operating, gift, endowment and grant funds and the importance of properly accounting for activity within these funds in day-to-day business. Information about fundamental accounting concepts and terminology will also be presented. Participants will learn about balance sheets, income statements, assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses and debits and credits. The session is geared toward new employees who have a fiscal role or who would like to understand more about accounting basics.
Department Fiscal Responsibilities: 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m.
This session will focus on departmental responsibilities for everyday fiscal activities such as purchasing, payroll, T&E expense report approval, cash receipt processing, billing, transaction reconciliation and financial report review. Daily, monthly and yearly fiscal activities will be discussed with information provided about appropriate documentation, segregation of duties and resources available for reference and assistance.
