In June 2012, Missouri S&T initiated a year-long strategic planning process to determine clear and compelling strategies to guide the campus through the next five years. This initiative is aligned with University of Missouri System President Timothy Wolfe’s request that each of the four campuses produce a strategic plan focusing on its strengths and distinctive qualities, while addressing the most crucial challenges facing higher education. Guided by an outside consulting firm, Innosight, the process is designed to produce by June 2013 clear and compelling strategies for each campus, detailing five-year strategic plans with related financial plans and performance metrics that align with the university’s strategy.

At Missouri S&T, this strategic planning process is viewed as an opportunity to refine the school’s mission and enhance its national stature.
The nearly 40 members who serve on the Strategic Planning Coalition, representing faculty, staff and administration, have developed specific strategy statements and have built representative profiles that consider the needs of the campus and its primary external constituents:

  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate distance/online students
  • Research-based graduate students
  • Research investors
  • Employers
  • Donors

In January and February, members of the Strategic Planning Coalition will direct targeted brainstorming sessions (“ideation” sessions) aimed at developing possible solutions, or “levers,” for these targeted focus areas that will be used to build the strategic plan.
The campus community is invited to participate in the first targeted brainstorming session for the donors customer group, which will be held from 12:30-4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in St. Pat’s B of the Havener Center. Please note those who attend must commit to the entire session and are asked to RSVP to Krista Chambers at krista@mst.edu or 341-4898 by Monday, Jan. 14, so adequate materials are prepared. Attendees entering and leaving during this carefully planned session would adversely impact the process.
The schedule and locations for additional targeted brainstorming sessions are now posted on the new strategic plan website. Your username and password is required to access the site.
