Garmin International Inc. is expanding its engineering internship program by opening a new software engineering facility at S&T’s Technology Development Center in Rolla. The facility is designed to support semester-long part-time internships throughout the school year and full-time internships during the summer.
Students who participate in the internships will have the opportunity to work side by side with Garmin engineers and will get hands-on experience developing the next generation of Garmin GPS products.
Garmin worked closely with S&T’s office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED) to open the new facility. The grand opening will be held on Monday, Dec. 3.
The Technology Development Center is a 22,000 square-foot building located in Innovation Park on 10th Street, near Phelps County Regional Medical Center. This state-of-the-art building is home to a number of start-up companies and economic development support organizations.
“We are incredibly pleased to have Garmin open this center at S&T,” says Keith Strassner, director of TTED. “We have had a very strong partnership with Garmin for many years and this center will help strengthen and grow that relationship. It provides a great opportunity for our students and the community.”
The center will be led by Bob Buehler, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from S&T in 2005 and 2009, respectively.
Garmin is currently accepting applications for software engineering interns, as well as for full-time engineering positions. Candidates may apply online.
