For the past few years, members of Missouri S&T surplus property have removed CRT monitors from campus at no cost to departments through a Dell program that legally disposed of this hazardous waste. Many CRT monitors were removed under the program; however, some monitors still remain on campus. Unfortunately, the Dell program has expired, and a fee will now be charged for all additional CRT monitor removals to cover the legal disposal fee.
The fee is effective immediately and is currently set at $15 per CRT monitor. Surplus property does not charge to collect and store the monitors. When a sufficient number of monitors are gathered, Dell will pick them up at the surplus property warehouse and transport them for recycling and disposal of the hazardous materials for the $15 fee.
An optional service is provided locally through the Rolla Recycling Center that currently charges $10 per CRT monitor for disposal. To use this service, you will have to transport the CRTs to the center and use your university Pcard for the disposal fee. This is a cheaper alternative for your department, especially when disposing of a large number of CRTs.
Please contact the Rolla Recycling Center before taking any CRTs to them as the price may fluctuate and they must ensure they have adequate help to unload the monitors.
All other electronic waste goes to surplus property, as they have means for its disposal at no additional cost to the university. Do not take any other computer components to the Rolla Recycling Center.
If your department has CRT monitors and would like to exchange them for flat panel monitors, surplus property has 17 flat panels available while supplies last. The $15 disposal fee for the CRT will be collected, but no fee will be charged for the flat panel monitor as part of the exchange.
The Missouri S&T surplus property warehouse is located at 301 N. Bishop Ave. Appointments are encouraged as the warehouse is not staffed full time.
