Updates for the S&T community
It’s time for Missouri S&T’s annual conference for 7th and 8th grade girls, Expanding Your Horizons (EYH), which attracts 500 participants to the S&T campus. This year’s conference will be held on Friday, Nov. 4.
The young women will attend a keynote speech with cancer researcher Eva Vertes, see a technology light show and attend two hands-on workshops. These workshops will demonstrate that studying math and science in high school can be fun and can lead to a rewarding professional career. Women are still under-represented in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers. Help these young women realize these career options are available to them if they start preparing now by taking science and math electives in upcoming years.
Guiding is easy and enjoyable, and a great way to contribute to the young women’s experience on campus. All faculty, staff and students, especially women, are encouraged to volunteer to be a guide. Guide volunteers will escort groups of girls to their activities around campus between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
