Geology and geophysics announces student awards

Several students were honored during the Geology and Geophysics Homecoming Banquet:

  • Hesham Refayee was named the Jeffrey Spooner Outstanding Graduate Scholar
  • Brock Alldredge was named the Dr. Thomas Beveridge Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Kate Schlarman received the Undergraduate Student Award for Service
  • Lamuail Bashir, Ahmed Elsheikh and Mohamed Zobaa each received a Publication Award. Each student received a plaque and a scholarship from the program.
  • Colleen Conrad and Cory Reed received the Sheldon Kerry Grant Field Camp Award, a plaque and a Brunton compass.
  • Joanna Kho, Krista Rybacki and Lu Zhu received honorable mention for the Grant Award and were awarded certificates for their achievements.
  • Cory Reed and Junzhe Sun were honored as recipients of the Clifford Bishop Memorial Scholarship.

The 2011-2012 Dr. Alfred Spreng Research awards were also announced at the banquet. Jonathan Obrist Farner and Lu Zhu received the Graduate and Undergraduate Research awards, respectively. The Spreng awards help recipients defray costs associated with presenting their research at professional meetings.
